A past that comes back again

The extraordinary archaeological city of Pompeii, the excavations of Ercolano, Oplonti, the recent ones of Somma Vesuviana, of Villa Regina in Boscoreale, Terzigno, the magnificent eighteenth-century villas of Miglio d'Oro, the Masserie Vesuviane and the barrel roofs of Terzigno, the Antiquarium of Boscoreale, the Mav, virtual archaeological museum in Ercolano, the lavas in permanent exhibition of Creator Vesevo, along the ascent to the Gran Cono, the Railway Museum of Pietrarsa in Portici, where the first Italian line built by the Bourbons let the nobles be comfortable when they moved into the villa, the Coral Museum in Torre del Greco, that of the Peasant Civilization in Somma Vesuviana, once again tell of a story of intertwining and interactions between man and the volcano, which is also reflected in the flavours, crafts and traditions of these places.

Historical Buildings and Villas

The heritage of the villae rusticae, farms and villa farms is very interesting. They are in the area of the ager Pompeianus, the Pompeian suburb, and constituted the elements of the production network operating in the first century AD on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius and in the nearby plain of the river Sarno. In the territory of Boscoreale, in particular, the archaeological excavations, between the end of the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth century, have brought to light numerous structures, such as Villa della Pisanella, subsequently backfilled.
