Le Malacofaune fossili del Rio Torsero

The Pliocene outcrops of Rio Torsero have always aroused the interest of many scientists both for the wonderful fossil specimens that have been discovered in the area and for the issues regarding the dating and the reconstruction of the fossilization environment. The value of this deposit is demonstrated by the interest that researchers, from the beginning of the 19th century, have demonstrated for the rich mollusc fauna coming from the gray-blue level of marls. The importance of this place is also demonstrated by the fact that several Italian and European museum preserve in their collections materials coming from Rio Torsero. Rio Torsero Regional Nature Reserve was established with L.R. 9/85 and confirmed with L.R. 12/1995. The collection is formed of approximately one thousand and one hundred specimens, partly preserved in the Palaeontological Museum in Ceriale, a country hamlet of Peagna (SV), and partly in the Palaeontological Museum of the University of Genoa.
The Atlas consists of 226 tables dedicated to the species described from 1989.
