| The Holiday House “Don Ferdinando Giovannetti” lies in the small town of Poggio alla Lastra, in the Municipality of Bagno di Romagna, at the beginning of Pietrapazza valley. The main activities characterizing the small country hamlet are agriculture and tourism; it is one of the natural gateways to “Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna”. The valley, densely populated in the past and abandoned today, can be gone through along a long and charming forest road entering the National Park and giving the opportunity to appreciate on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike the signs of man (mule tracks, bridges, small churches, niches) intertwining with the signs of a luxuriant nature. The structure, provided with 12 rooms with 42 beds, bathrooms, kitchen, and a large garden all around, can be used by self-managed groups from 1st June to 15th September. Further information The holiday house has been named after don Ferdinando Giovannetti, that is the old but very active parish priest of Poggio alla Lastra who in 1935 purchased a palace from an ancient rich local family and transformed it into a nursery school for the inaccessible small town you could reach only along mule tracks. After long works, the nursery school was inaugurated on 21st September 1941 and was entrusted to the nuns of "Istituto delle Orsoline" in Gandino. It carried out an intense entertainment, educational, and religious activity, and also housed a winter working school for girls until the beginning of the 70s, when Poggio alla Lastra was populated by a few families. |
