Umberto Console. The Teacher-Journalist and Photography

 From 26th May to 8th July 2007 Palazzo del Capitano houses an exhibit dedicated to Umberto Console (Palermo 1886 - S. Piero in Bagno 1969), elementary school teacher and local correspondent of “Il Resto del Carlino”.
On display, images that in the long collaboration with «Il Resto del Carlino» (1926 - 1969) and other newspapers and magazines («Il Bosco», «La Voce», «Il Messaggero», «La Piê», «Le Vie d’Italia», «Il Popolo d’Italia», «Il Corriere Padano» …), have completed his articles in which he talked about events, characters, and the territory of Upper Savio Valley for decades and without clamour, contributing to its enhancement and knowledge.
 The photos on display - chosen among the most important images that have been preserved as negatives on plate or film in “Fondo Console” of Istituto Comprensivo in Bagno di Romagna - have been shot by Console, Tarciso Stoppa from Verghereto, Jacopo Moretti and Augusto Casetti from S. Piero in Bagno: they are important documents about forty intense years of the territory, from the coming of fascism to the depopulation of the countryside, recalling important and less important events, characters, traditions, habits, professions, the slow and ancient rhythms of the town and the modernity coming from the nearby cities.
 The exhibit, under the patronage of the Municipality of Bagno di Romagna and promoted by “Centro di Studi Storici” of Bagno di Romagna, has been organized also thanks to the contribution of Istituto comprensivo of Bagno di Romagna and Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì, which participated in the publication of the catalogue, edited by Francesca Nicosia.
 The exhibit was born from the 2006 history workshop in which a few classes of Scuola Media Statale “Manara Valgimigli” of San Piero in Bagno took part: the students were involved in the image cataloguing, a first step towards the creation of an archive gathering all the material coming from “Fondo Console”.
