The Park covers the central section of the mountains surrounding Bologna and develops around two large basin created at the beginning of the 20th century with hydroelectric purposes. From the ridge, the chain formed by Mt. Calvi (1,283 m above sea level) and by the mountain of Stagno continues separating the valleys of the streams Brasimone and Limentra di Treppio, the main tributaries of the two lakes. Mixed woodlands consisting of oaks, beech trees, and conifer reforestations cover the slopes and sandstones of the main mountains on the western slope and at the bottom of the valley of Brasimone Lake, forming the spectacular front of Cinghi delle Mogne.
